Formula Ford pilot Anthony Martin took top honours over three races at Barbagallo Raceway on August 28, topping the field twice as Christopher Mitchell did his best to halt his perfect weekend.

After Martin’s eight qualifying laps, the Western Air Formula Ford driver’s best time was enough for pole position and set the trend for the day’s three races.

Christopher Mitchell was over two-tenths-of-a-second behind in second.

Andrew Goldie, who could only manage a qualifying time half-a-second slower than Martin’s, started third.

Despite the times set in qualifying suggesting the top order may be a procession, Christopher Mitchell did his best to hound the qualifying victor to the flag in Race One and would come .233s shy of stealing first race honours.

Christopher Mitchell hounded Anthony Martin all day, but was only able to overcome him once.

Andrew Goldie maintained his qualifying position in the race and crossed the line four seconds behind the leading pair.

Rainfall before Race Two provided Chris Mitchell the opportunity to steal the initiative and take victory 1.5 seconds ahead of Martin. Lap times were substantially slower in the tricky conditions, with Nicholas Rowe’s race fastest lap being recorded at nearly 14 seconds slower than that of Anthony Martin’s fastest in Race One.

Rowe took advantage of the tricky conditions to jump into fourth place, finishing only a tenth of a second behind Peter Major.

Peter Major improved as the day wore on.

Martin once again surged to victory in the day’s final race, concluding the day’s running with 70 points from a maximum 75. Peter Major, who continued to improve as the day wore on, came home in second, less than a tenth of a second behind the race winner, to score 20 points and, accumulatively, one more than fourth-placed Andrew Goldie over the three races.

Rowe, who struggled in Race One and chased Major to the flag in Race Two, again pushed the Fastlane Racing driver to the end, finishing one-and-a-half tenths of a second behind at the end of the race.
